Roster & Register Rules
** Violation of any of the roster rules can cause ejection for a player and/or the entire team at any point during the tournament. They may also be refused registration at future tournaments.
All participants MUST be Muslim - unless given special permission beforehand by the Organizing Committee (O.C.)
Primarily due to logistical reasons, all teams must be based in Montreal, with up to 6 players from outside of the city allowed on each team. The definition of someone who is based in Montreal is:
- born in the Greater Montreal Area
- lives in the Greater Montreal Area
- permanent residence is in the Greater Montreal Area
- used to live in the Greater Montreal Area AND parents still do
All participants must be at least 18 years of age - unless given special permission by the O.C. beforehand.
TO REGISTER, email great.hockey @ gmail.com - all potential participants (including captains) MUST register as individual free agents and provide their contact information (email and/or phone) and position(s) they play. All free agents will be up on the website - the list will be updated regularly. If you really cannot email (for whatever reason), then contact any member of the O.C. with your contact information and position to register.
Free Agency
The free agency period will last until 11:59pm on April 18. It is a period for players and potential captains to network and contact different players. During the period, all players are encouraged to evaluate all offers/pursue different players.
From April 19 at 11:59pm to April 30, teams must register. Please note that this is done on a first come, first serve basis as there is only space for up to 18 teams (though additional spaces MAY be considered). The earlier a team registers, the higher their waiver priority (SEE BELOW).
To officially register a team, the team must make (i) a non-refundable deposit of $100; (ii) have a minimum of 5 confirmed players. These players cannot be dropped after being registered. If the circumstances are such that the O.C. feels it is justifiable for the players to be dropped (ie. illness, confirmed absence, etc.), then the team must relinquish their waiver priority to last place in order to get a replacement.
All teams must make their full, non-refundable payment of $300 no later than 11:59pm on April 30. Failure to do so will result in either a late fee of $25/day or automatic de-registration.
Please note that Free Agents can continue to register AFTER the Free Agent period ends and the website will continually be updated. However, they will be subject to waiver rules and can only be signed during the Waiver Period (SEE BELOW). This process will end on April 30 at 11:59pm when a roster freeze will be implemented, after which players can only be added by special permission of the O.C. (ie. illness, injury, etc.) - these added players MUST be selected from the list of remaining free agents.
Due to the difficulties encountered at previous tournaments where certain teams did not follow rules properly: any member of the O.C. reserves the right to ask any player for identification (ID) at any point. ID should depict player picture, name and address (ie. driver's license). Failure to do so will result in automatic ejection of the player and possibly the team as well.
Waiver Rule
After the Free Agent period expires at 11:59pm on April 18, players can still register. However, they will be placed on the waiver wire. Once the Waiver Period starts, all teams have up to 24 hours to place bids on a player on the waiver wire. A team can only make 1 bid at one time. At the end of the 24 hours, the team with the highest waiver priority gets the player.
A player must play on the team that has selected him. The team subsequently falls to the bottom of the waiver priority list.
If a player does not get any bids by any team within 24 hours of registration, he clears waivers and becomes a regular Free Agent - he can choose/speak to whichever team he wishes to play for.
Waiver priority is initially determined by when a team officially registers after the end of the FA period.
Waiver Period begins either after the first 8 teams have registered or at 12:01am Friday April 23 - whichever comes first.
Example:
The following teams register:
Team A registers at 12:01am October 1
Team B registers at 2:00pm October 1
Team C registers at 7:30pm October 2
Team D registers at 9:00pm October 2
The Waiver Priority List would be:
1- Team A
2- Team B
3- Team C
4- Team D
On October 5, Defenceman I.C. Youppi registers. He is placed on the Waiver Wire.
On October 5, Goalie U. Stink registers. He is placed on the Waiver Wire.
On October 6 at 12:01am, Team B makes a bid at U. Stink
On October 6 at 5:00pm, Team C makes a bid for I.C. Youppi
On October 7 at 8:45pm, Team A makes a bid to get I.C. Youppi
first: Team B would get U. Stink
second: Team A would end up getting I.C. Youppi
The new Waiver Priority List would be:
1- Team C
2- Team D
3- Team B
4- Team A
